Paisley Blue

Hello! I purchased some things with my birthday money and tonight I'm dressing them up for dinner!

Kimono & Cami - New Look | Jeans - Forever 21 | Heels - Topshop

I saw this kimono in store after my brother called it 'so ugly' and I loved it. It's something you can dress up with jeans and heels for dinner or chuck over a bikini for a beach cover up. I pictured this for the latter but I can't wait for when I finally get to see some sunshine. I also really wanted a simple white cami with a bit of flow to it and I picked this up at the same time as the kimono. These jeans are one of the best fitting pairs I own and these heels were from Topshop last year, although I'll find you a similar pair!

Birthday Surprises

Hello! It was my birthday on Saturday - the big 17. How odd is it that at 23:59 I wasn't able to drive and 60 seconds later I am all of a sudden allowed to drive on the roads? Of course, I haven't passed yet but I did have my first lesson yesterday which was pretty good actually! I thought I'd share a couple of things I got for my birthday. I did ask for money as I wanted to pick myself up a couple of things that were specific to me and that I needed to go grab which I plan to show you in another post... Boring disclaimer alert: I'm not bragging, I love reading these posts so I thought you might too...

First of all, my friend got me this delicious pasta recipe book. Pasta is my favourite thing to cook and I shared this recipe towards the beginning of my blog that I kind of made up, kind of copied. That recipe is running a little dry so this is a great way to find even more ways I can eat pasta. I bloody love carbs. Help. My dad bought me a beautiful Tiffany bracelet back from New York which surprised me so much. It's so dainty and small which I love and it's something I can keep forever. Absolutely timeless. My friends all pitched in together to buy me an Instax Mini 8. I'd had my eye on this for a while so I was so excited about this. I love the idea of Polaroids and while you can easily print digital photos, not enough people do! Including me! If you cast your mind back to my birthday wishlist, I showed a Mulberry pouch on there with not-so-high expectations. However, my brother seemed to be able to find what I was looking for! And finally, a concealer I've been waiting to have in my collection for a while! I've used this before but never actually owned it and there is a lot of hype around it at the moment! I love a good concealer! I'm also getting my hair done tomorrow and am going a little lighters for summer which I'm really excited about! EEK!

Hope you are having a good week and half term if you're still at school!

Elizabeth and James | Nirvana White

Hello! It's my birthday!

When my dad headed to the States 3 weeks ago, not only did I reeeallly miss him, but I was pondering on what I could ask him to get me there that we can't get here.

I recently saw a lot about the Oslen Twins's perfumes Nirvana White and Nirvana Black. It's not the easiest to get hold of in the UK and the white one particularly appealed to me because of it's notes of peony. It is a risk to ask for a perfume you've never smelt before but I trust the opinions of fellow bloggers and YouTubers so I just went for it and asked my dad to get my a roller ball of Nirvana White. If I didn't like it it wouldn't be such a loss and I could always get hold of it if I liked it enough for a larger size.

My dad very kindly bought me the large version. Luckily enough, I bloody love it. I love floral and summery scents and this has that from the peony and the muguet (lily of the valley) but is made more sophisticated by the musk. It's the kind of scent I want to wear on a special occasion and I think it's very enlightening and feminine. The bottle is slim, sleek and beautiful with a textured white body and gold detailing which I think adds to the elegance of it.

It was a big risk to ask for a perfume I'd never smelt before but I love it. Scents are what tie me most to memories I create and a perfume often brings back strong memories for me from a certain time. With my birthday on Saturday I will whip this out to make it extra special. I am dying to smell the black version as I've heard a rumour they're undeniably complimentary when layered, tying together feminine touches with a masculine base, so I will definitely do that whenever I get the chance.

Also, can we applaud my dad for stepping into Sephora in New York - the busiest shop he's ever seen. You're a very lovely dad!

Fashionable Disorder

Fashion is something that has changed ever since Adam and Eve were shocked by their nudity right back when. For example, Crocs and Uggs were once a thing, right? I'm also under the impression we will one day look back at our library of Facebook pictures, cringe and claim we had no idea what we were thinking when we wore that. So fashion changes, but a while ago Twitter was hit with images of Urban Outfitters latest trend alongside their infamous 'Eat Less' Tshirt, a positively negative reaction towards this 'statement piece', I'm sure you will all agree.

Urban Outfitters pulled their 'Eat Less' Tshirt back in 2010 and have since pulled other items such as shot glasses and flasks in the style of prescription medicine bottles and 'Syringe Shot Shooters', complete with embarrassing apologies across social media sites.

Perhaps showing they haven't quite learnt their lesson, this newest trend shows a tshirt black printed with the word 'depression' over and over - because depression is like, so cool. This has also been pulled, for a second time I might add, though the store claimed they were supporting an independant label under the name 'Depression.' How humble of you, UO. The question is, who chooses these pieces? Designs them? Buys them, even? And why do they keep appearing on the shelves when they will inevitably have to clear them again just weeks later? It goes without saying that mental illness needs to stop being glamourised by the media and the idea of it being a fashion item is only more disgusting.  UO has had a history with displaying offensive content on their website including slogans aimed at the Irish's love for drinking, their colour choice of 'Obama/Black' and pictures of Hailey Clauston in compromising positions, who was 15 at the time. Whoops. There are countless articles on their top most offensive and controversial pieces of clothing that they recieve endless complaints about and have to remove from their stores. I just don't understand why they're stocked in the first place and who thinks it's a good idea to produce these products.

However, there is one thing I have to say I admire Urban Outfitters for displaying on their site; two female models kissing because God forbid they would use a heterosexual couple to display their garments to the world. Inevitably, this also recieved complaints but I think that it's a movement in the right direction. If they're wanting to be controversial and create a frenzy over something, I think that's the right thing to choose. In a world where it's becoming more and more expected, why not? So I respect that, more companies should do that. Well, that and the sheer audacity to excessively overcharge their customers.

Kickstart Smoothie

Hello! I'm sat with my delicious smoothie that I just made and I wanted to share it with you. At the moment I'm on study leave for my exams and with 2 down I now have 3 to go *phew*! My food wishlist for my study leave contained lots of fruit that I could make smoothies with as I wanted to be able to have something in the mornings to kickstart my brain and have some food in me. I'm the worst at eating breakfast because I hate eating in the mornings and I wanted to be able to have something before I buried my head in books.

I cut up 1 whole banana, a kiwi, a whole apple with skin (because the skin is the good part) and added a handful of blueberries along with the 4 raspberries that someone had left in the fridge.

I then added them to my blender with some Greek yogurt and a little bit of water although if you like to eat less dairy you could just use water or some fruit juice.

It's really that simple. While I don't always do it, I think it's really important to have something at the beginning of the day to kickstart your brain and metabolism and this also gives you a natural sugar boost. There are so many different variations of smoothies - you could use avocado, orange, more berries or peaches - it really depends on your preference and this is one of my favourites.

Back to the books but what do you put in your smoothies or juices?

HOT THIS WEEK: Garnier Miracle Skin Cream

Hello! Last week I went shopping and couldn't resist picking this up as I'm a big fan of light tinted moisturizers for the warmer months. I thought this would be great to even out my complexion and I could just pop concealer on the areas where there wasn't quite enough coverage. I was also intrigued by the way the formula changes colour when you apply it to your skin so I thought I would give you the low down.

I think that this product makes a great moisturizer as part of your skincare routine, a great primer and even just on it's own it looks great. The first thing I noticed after applying it to my skin was how well it blended and my skin felt so soft. I applied a bit of concealer under the eyes, around my nose and on any blemishes and, not to sound big headed, but my skin looked great. I also wore this under my Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in my Outfit of the Day last week as I can find the Serum a little drying on my skin. I think it made a brilliant base as it was so hydrating and I think my make up lasted pretty well throughout the night. I might have forgotten to take my make up off (massive blogger error) but I think it stopped my skin completely freaking out like it normally does (obviously don't leave your make up on over night though, stupid mistake!)

The reason you can use this on it's own is because although it comes out of the bottle a white-cream colour, once you start to blend it into the skin it transforms. The product is a one-colour suits all and although the colour of this matches my skin colour perfectly, I'd say paler gals might have a bit of trouble. I'm about as pale as I get at the moment and I have high hopes for it suiting my bronzed up skin during the summer months.

I definitely would say this has made it into my summer staples in just a week. In the winter I prefer something a bit heavier but I think this will work really well as a light base or mixed with a tiny dab of foundation if I'm in need of more coverage. Blends seemlessly and can be applied with your fingers (although I do have to wash my hands before I can even think about picking anything up afterwards!) which makes it super easy for holidays and festivals, especially as it's got SPF 20! It sinks in super quick and doesn't make me look oily or cling to dry patches which I absolutely love. I can't really say anything bad about this product. Flawless.

Double Floral Neon

Hello! Tonight I'm heading out for the last night before exams. I'm off to fellow blogger Katy's (therawrdrobe) to celebrate her 18th with some drinks and a boogie. The beginning of May brings promise of hotter days and evenings (supposedly) and brighter clothes. I have wanted a co-ord for ages and spotted this beauty on missguided. Albeit, it was not as neon in the photographs online which surprised me but I actually love it more. It enhances my tan and brightens up my life. And I've paired it with my sparkly jellies which I purchased last year. People laughed at me for buying them but what seems to be all the rage this year? A solid pair of jellies. Just call me Mystic Meg...

wearing - co-ord - missguided | jellie shoes - ebay | rayban clubmaster sunglasses - vision express
nails - barry m gelly hi-shine in papaya
face - garnier miracle skin cream | collection concealer | dior rosy glow blush | bourjois chocolate bronzer | maybelline brow drama | maybelline the rocket | naked 2 (bootycall, tease, chopper, snakebite) | rimmel exaggerate liquid liner | revlon colourburst lip butter in lollipop | tanya burr gloss in chic

This co-ord is made of lovely thin jacquard material. I think it looks amazing together and I think I will get loads of wear out of it this summer! I can also wear each part separately if I'm not going all out! Tonight I might have to slip on a pair of tights, get a coat on and ditch the glasses... it's a tad chilly!
